Ben is the Director of Design Theory and Networks at the Prince's Foundation in Shoreditch, London. His duties include the collation of applied theory and its translation and delivery in practice. He is also responsible for leading the pro-active engagement of a scrutinized network of practitioners on projects to contribute to the Foundation’s mission;
In the last 3 years he has led either multi-disciplinary design workshops or design teams for the following projects:
Kitts Green, Birmingham – New young person’s self development centre –complete
The Armed Forces Memorial, Staffs – New national monument – on site
Holloway Road, N1 – New 180 person apartment building as part of the London-wide affordable housing initiative – awaiting planning decision
Peterborough Cathedral – New development strategy for Cathedral precinct – awaiting conservation plan
Cottingley, Bradford – New brownfield church, hall, surgery and 50 dwelling masterplan – on site
Camp Hill, Nuneaton – New brownfield mix-use village centre masterplan for 400 dwellings – phase 1 built, 2 on site; twice shortlisted for BURA annual awards
Westoe Colliery, South Shields – New mix-use brownfield regeneration of 600 dwellings on former colliery – on site; case study in EP’s brownfield guide
Kingston Mills, Bradford-on-Avon – New mix-use brownfield development of 200 dwellings– awaiting planning decision
Cherry Knowle, Sunderland – New 180 bed mental health facility and mix-use village extension – site purchased by EP
Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex – New brownfield regeneration strategy for the town– submitted for next round of allocations
Alder Hey, Liverpool – Strategy for phased demolition, relocation and building of a new children’s acute hospital – obtained outline planning, awaiting OBC approval
Sutton, London – New campus plan for Sutton hospital, Royal Marsden and the Institute of Cancer Research – on hold pending decision on final location
Nelson, East Lancashire – Regeneration strategy for mill worker’s housing – on site
Manton, Workshop – New health and regeneration strategy – awaiting funding decision
Crewkerne, Somerset – New mix-use village extension for 500 dwellings – obtained outline planning permission
Newquay, Cornwall – New mix-use urban extension for 1,200 dwellings – awaiting outline planning decision
Sherford , South Hams – New mix-use town for 5,500 dwellings – awaiting outline planning decision
Harlow, Essex – New growth strategy for a mix-use expansion of 25,000 dwellings – obtained allocation for 16,000 dwellings
Lincoln – City centre masterplan – a 30 year vision. Swanpool – the western expansion of a mix-use urban extension of 4,500 dwellings – currently being adopted in local plan
During this time he has also sat on design panels or steering groups for ;
